Shangri-La Dialogue

The IISS (International Institute for Strategic Studies) organised its Annual Meeting, a think tank on strategic defence thinking with delegates the Defence Ministers and Heads of Military of Asian Countries, Australia and USA.

Congress Rental Pte Ltd was the technical supplier on all Simultaneous Interpretation Systems, Conference microphones and Dome cameras for the event. Jeremy Ducklin and his team provided this international meeting with:

  • Main Plenary – 5 booths Japanese, Mandarin, Korean, Vietnamese, spare
  • 451 Full Function Concentus Microphones
  • 3 x 35 Conference Microphones in 3 breakouts
  • 2 x Dome Cameras in each of 3 breakout areas
  • 600 Smart Cards encoded for each of the VIP delegates
  • Multi-CCU ( 2 x CCUs)
  • 8 x Extension Power Supplies
  • Multi-PC (5 concurrent PC’s working on the system)
  • Software Queueing
  • Synoptic Microphone View

All the above were supplied and provided together with the synergy and support of 7 other CRN members (Ubiqus from UK, Congress Rental South Africa, Congress Rental Emirates, PC Rent from Madrid – Spain, Elakustik from Germany, Teletech from Denmark and Studio 7 from Malta), proving one more time that one of the main strengths and added values in our network is our combination in equipment and manpower!

Jeremy and his team faced many challenges in order to provide the optimum result towards IISS, as they are an ongoing client due to good customer service and continuous efforts to offer new technologies and solutions to their events. One of the main challenges that they faced was timing. The Plenary room was used to hold a dinner the night prior to the first day of the event. Nevertheless, the trunk’s and extension power supplies for the microphones were all tested in advance. The dinner function was completed at 11:00pm and the tables layed put in classroom style starting at midnight. They worked through the night to put out and test 451 microphones and Synoptic Microphone layout by 7am the following morning. One more major challenge was the logistics in sourcing the microphones from different partners and on the other side as well, to ensure that the encoding of the smart cards matched the printing of names and photos on the cards and for this we had a dedicated resource in support of the registration team.

How was the success of the event measured? A delighted customer, who is tendering out the event management for future events, but has deliberately excluded all aspects looked after by Congress Rental because they are so happy!
